The Maude Kerns Art Center presents “Life Deconstructed,” featuring the work of Jerri Bartholomew, Jessica Gardner, and Renée Couture & Sandee McGee, opening with a public reception on Friday, January 10, from 6 – 8 pm. The exhibit is on display through Friday, February 7.
Jerri Bartholomew is a professor of Microbiology at Oregon State University. Although art is not her area of formal education, Bartholomew feels that her background in microbiology gives her a unique perspective on her art. She creates collages in glass using cold-working and fusing techniques and incorporating photographic screen prints and free-form imagery.
Jessica Gardner, formerly of Hillsboro, Oregon, displays an installation comprised of ceramic figures and interactive toys that evoke memories of childhood and invite viewers “to deconstruct the building blocks of their social persona.” Gardner has exhibited her work at the Pittsburg State University Gallery, as well as in venues throughout the U.S. and in Jingdezhen, China.
Renée Couture & Sandee McGee, both art professors at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, present a collaborative, multi-media series titled “Unmoored.” Their work, which incorporates photography, drawing, sculpture, and video, explores a constellation of topics, including “desires, progress, and conveniences,” and the positives and negatives of each.
